European Commission proposes new macrofinancial assistance of €145 million to Moldova

The European Commission on Tuesday 24 January proposed to provide Moldova with a further macrofinancial assistance of €145 million, of which €45 million in grants and €100 million in soft loans.

This assistance, which will bring the European Union’s macrofinancial assistance to the country to a total of €295 million (see EUROPE 12918/16), will help Moldova to honour its financial commitments and support the Moldovan economy, which has been badly affected by Russian aggression in Ukraine, the EU institution said in a statement.

Scheduled for the third and fourth quarters of 2023, both disbursements will be subject to new conditions related to economic governance, the fight against corruption, respect for the rule of law and improved energy security. (Original version in French by Mathieu Bion)
