24/01/2023 (Agence Europe) – By an overwhelming majority (36 votes in favour, 1 against), MEPs on the European Parliament’s Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO) on Tuesday 24 January approved the political agreement reached at the end of November 2022 between EU co-legislators on the General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR), which will replace an outdated EU directive from 2001 (see EUROPE 13089/11, 13073/2). This regulation aims to ensure the same high level of safety, whether products are sold in shops or on online marketplaces and regardless of their origin. “I am very happy with the result. I think it is one of the examples when we are really making the life of European consumers safer and better” welcomed Dita Charanzová (Renew Europe, Czech), who was chief negotiator for the European Parliament.
