18/01/2023 (Agence Europe) – Barring a further change of plans, the European Commission is expected to present its recommendation on the EU’s disaster resilience goals for events such as forest fires on 8 February, according to the EU institution’s indicative timetable of 17 January. This recommendation, initially expected last December, had been postponed. The European Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarčič, had recently indicated that the finalisation of this initiative was underway, on the occasion of an expert meeting of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, whose assistance can be requested both by EU Member States and by third countries facing large-scale natural or man-made disasters beyond their response capacities (see EUROPE 13096/4).
