15/12/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 15 December, the European Council agreed to grant Bosnia and Herzegovina candidate status for EU membership. It thus confirmed the decision of the General Affairs Council of 13 December (see EUROPE 13083/24), whereby this status will be granted as the measures specified in the Commission’s recommendation of October 2022 have been taken. Bosnia and Herzegovina submitted its application on 15 February 2016 (see EUROPE 11490/1). The European Council also endorsed the conclusions adopted by the GAC on enlargement and the Stabilisation and Association Process, covering the six Western Balkan countries (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia), Turkey, and the three associated countries of the Eastern Partnership (Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia) (see EUROPE 13083/24).
