15/12/2022 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission announced on Wednesday 14 December the signing of a €2 million grant agreement with a consortium of organisations from the media sector. The objective: to support local media to fight against “information deserts”. The Commission is concerned that there are geographical areas or communities that do not receive independent and relevant media coverage. In total, the project will last 18 months and will be divided into two parts. The first element aims to map, by the end of 2023, the “information deserts” and the areas at risk of becoming one. The second will make available 30 grants worth a total of €1.2 million to local, regional and community media. The offers will be published between March and July 2023. (HS)
