15/12/2022 (Agence Europe) – MEPs of the Committee on Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO) proposed the creation of a new Article to set up an early warning system for shortages, based on a set of early warning indicators (Article 18), in an opinion on the semiconductor initiative adopted by 32 votes to 3 with 4 abstentions on the evening of Monday 12 December in the margins of the plenary session. In addition, they have improved the mapping of supply chains (Article 17b). They also added transparency guarantees for joint procurement and added a list of critical sectors. They also strengthened the environmental provisions. The European Parliament is expected to vote on its text in the Committee on Industry and Research (ITRE) in January.
