European Commission consults on banning use of certain antimicrobials in animals or animal products imported into EU

07/12/2022 (Agence Europe)The European Commission is consulting the public on a draft implementing regulation concerning the ban on the use of certain antimicrobials in animals and animal products imported into the EU. Launched on 6 December, this consultation aims to gather as many contributions as possible. The future implementing regulation will complement Regulation (EU) 2019/6 by laying down the detailed rules necessary to implement the prohibition in Article 118, Paragraph 1 of that legislation. This EU regulation requires third country operators exporting animals or animal products to the EU to respect the prohibition on the use of antimicrobial medicines for growth promotion or yield enhancement purposes and on the use of antimicrobials for the treatment of certain infections in humans. According to the European Commission, the draft has already been submitted to the WTO. The online consultation will be open until midnight on 3 January. To access: https://aeur.eu/f/4in (AN)
