06/12/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 5 December, the European Union welcomed the signature of a political framework agreement in Sudan, which happened on the same day through the UNITAMS-African Union-IGAD tripartite mechanism. “While the agreement is a living document and remains open for others to sign, there should be no place in the political spectrum for spoilers”, the High Representative of the Union, Josep Borrell, said on behalf of the EU27. It is now essential that all actors “re-double their efforts on forming an inclusive, civilian transitional government that can deliver free, fair and credible elections, on an agreed timetable”, said Mr Borrell. He announced that relations and cooperation between the EU and the Sudanese authorities could resume “whenever a transitional government and constitutional arrangements for the transition period are agreed”.
