06/12/2022 (Agence Europe) – Belgian Secretary of State Nicole de Moor criticised Italy’s decision on Tuesday 6 December to unilaterally suspend all ‘Dublin transfers’. This decision would mean that Rome would no longer readmit asylum seekers first registered in its country. “The country has officially announced this in a letter to the Member States participating in the Dublin Regulation”, which organises responsibilities between Member States, explained the Secretary of State. Belgium is holding a ministerial meeting on Wednesday on the application of the Dublin rules and secondary flows of migrants in the EU. “What Italy is doing is totally unacceptable. Each Member State must do its part to ensure that the European asylum system is truly based on solidarity. Belgium is under more asylum pressure than Italy”, she added. (SP)
