06/12/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 6 December, the European Commission gave the green light to the Territorial Just Transition Plans for the Istrian peninsula and the county of Sisak-Moslavina. These two Croatian counties will receive a total of €179 million from the ‘Just Transition Fund’ (JTF). In Istria, the only territory in the country with an operating coal-fired power plant and a carbon-intensive cement industry, the investments will support the transition to renewable energy and the diversification of the economy through the creation of sustainable innovation clusters and new circular business models. In Sisak-Molavina, the JTF will support SMEs in adopting new technologies, promote innovative business models and support training for workers in the chemical and refining industries. Croatia adopted its 2021-2027 Partnership Agreement in August 2022 (see EUROPE 13006/2). (HS)
