04/11/2022 (Agence Europe) – A delegation of MEPs from the European Parliament Committees on Civil Liberties (LIBE) and Legal Affairs (JURI) concluded a two-day visit to the UK on Friday 4 November on the subject of data protection. “We note that the UK government wants to adopt a more flexible approach to data protection, but at the same time the discrepancies between the legislative proposals and the General Data Protection Regulation may affect the UK’s adequacy status with the EU”, summarised Italian MEP Annalisa Tardino (ID), who headed the delegation. This visit by the European Parliament delegation comes after the European Commission adopted an adequacy decision with the UK in June 2021 (see EUROPE 12777/5) on which the European Parliament had expressed doubts (see EUROPE 12724/16).
