The foreign ministers of the G7 countries, meeting in Münster, Germany, on Thursday 3 and Friday 4 November, “strongly” condemned North Korea’s “unprecedented” series of ballistic missile launches.
Pyongyang launched at least 27 ballistic missiles on 2 November alone and several intercontinental missiles on 4 November. The firing was in response to joint US-South Korean military exercises.
“We reiterate our demand that the DPRK abandon its nuclear weapons, existing nuclear programmes, and any other weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missile programmes”, the G7 ministers said.
They also call for a rapid, united and robust response at the international level. In their view, all countries should fully implement UN Security Council resolutions on North Korea and monitor, prevent and penalise sanctions circumvention activities.
