19/10/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 18 October, some 20 organisations, including NGOs, industry associations and businesses, sent an open letter to Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala, whose country currently holds the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, asking him to push the EU to commit to higher energy efficiency and renewable energy targets for 2030. In particular, the signatory organisations are concerned about the recent Czech proposal to keep the target for increasing the share of renewable energy in the EU’s energy consumption to 40% by 2030, in line with the political agreement reached between the Member States last June, rather than increasing it to 45% (see EUROPE 13043/8). They argue that higher energy targets will help reduce “our dependence on Russian fossil gas”, “energy bills” and combat climate change. Read the letter: https://aeur.eu/f/3os (DG)
