19/10/2022 (Agence Europe) – MEP Rasa Juknevičienė (EPP, Lithuanian) called on the EU on Wednesday 19 October to prepare new sanctions against the Belarusian Lukashenko regime, “including cutting diplomatic ties with the Lukashenko regime and establishing diplomatic ties with Svetlana Tsikhanouskaya and her cabinet”. This request was made by Ms Tsikhanouskaya during a visit to Brussels on 13 October (see EUROPE 13042/17). “We do not recognise the dictator Lukashenko as the leader of Belarus”, Ms Juknevičiene recalled, adding that the European Parliament had already supported the establishment of people’s embassies of Belarus worldwide “in order to protect the interests of democratic Belarus and its citizens abroad”. “It is time that the EU and Member States deliver”, she insisted.
