19/10/2022 (Agence Europe) – In a resolution adopted on Tuesday 18 October by 349 votes to 275 with 14 abstentions, the European Parliament calls on the Commission to withdraw its decision to extend the authorisation of a large number of particularly toxic active substances of pesticides, including 8-hydroxyquinoline, chlorotoluron and difenoconazole. The Parliament points out in particular that they disrupt the endocrine system. Also singled out are dicamba, chlormequat, chlorotoluron, amidosulfuron, bensulfuron, bifenox, etc. The Parliament invokes the precautionary principle to justify the withdrawal of Implementing Regulation (EU) No 540/2011 of 22 September (amending Implementing Regulation (EU) No 540/2011 under Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009 concerning marketing authorisations for pesticides). Many of the substances in question had already been the subject of an objection by the European Parliament to the extension of their authorisation in 2020 (see EUROPE 12610/13).
