05/10/2022 (Agence Europe) – North Korea’s fifth ballistic missile launch in ten days (see EUROPE 13034/29) caused an international reaction on Tuesday 4 October. Especially since this latest shot flew over Japan, which had to activate its missile warning system and order its population to take shelter in two regions. This is an “unjustified aggression and blatant violation of international law”, according to the President of the European Council, Charles Michel. European External Action Service spokeswoman Nabila Massrali said on 5 October that it was “critical that the UN Security Council responds appropriately to this growing threat to international and regional peace and security”. In response to the North Korean launches, Seoul and Washington conducted joint missile launches in the Sea of Japan on 4 October. (LM)
