05/10/2022 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission is inviting all interested parties to participate in a public consultation it launched on Wednesday 5 October for twelve weeks, before proceeding with the revision of Regulation EC 1935/2004 on materials and articles intended to come into contact with food (food packaging, kitchen utensils and tableware, materials, machinery and equipment used in the production and transport of food). The review is expected in the second quarter of 2023. The aim is to reduce the use of hazardous substances, to support the use of innovative packaging solutions that are reusable and recyclable, environmentally friendly, and to increase transparency. This regulation was already amended in mid-September to allow safe recycled plastics in food packaging (see EUROPE 13022/14).
