05/10/2022 (Agence Europe) – Last Sunday’s parliamentary elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina were “generally competitive and well organised, but marked by citizens’ distrust of public institutions and ethnically divisive rhetoric”, noted the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, in a statement on Wednesday 5 October. He encouraged the Bosnian authorities to “address allegations of irregularities in order to ensure the utmost confidence in the election results and the election administration”. The EU now expects all political actors to “rapidly establish functioning legislatures and governments at the level of the State, entitles, and cantons in order to focus on EU-oriented reforms (...), including constitutional and electoral reform”, to conform with the commitments made in June (see EUROPE 12970/17).
