05/10/2022 (Agence Europe) – The Spanish Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas, confirmed on Wednesday 5 October that Spain will appeal to the Court of Justice of the European Union against the European Commission’s decision to ban fishing in 87 areas with vulnerable marine ecosystems (see EUROPE 13029/4). The implementing regulation, published on 19 September, “is absolutely disproportionate and unfair”, according to the Spanish government. The Spanish minister said that the text was “very detrimental” to the interests of Spanish fisheries. The European Parliament’s Committee on Fisheries will return to this sensitive issue at its meeting on Monday 10 October (see EUROPE 13032/10). The European Parliament is expected to debate deep-sea fishing during the plenary from 17 to 20 October. (LC)
