05/10/2022 (Agence Europe) – Some 108 organisations from the media, sports, music and culture sectors called on the European Commission, on Wednesday 5 October to take “ decisive” legislative action to combat live content piracy. In concrete terms, the signatories of the document want the European Commission to add this topic to its 2023 work programme - which it is currently finalising - to ensure that notified illegal content is removed immediately and blocked before the live event is over. “Piracy has and continues to drain Europe’s creative and cultural ecosystems, sports and live performance sectors depriving workers and industries from billions in annual revenues and undermining the sustainability of an essential part of our social and economic fabric”, the 108 signatories conclude.
