03/10/2022 (Agence Europe) – In Pakistan, the European Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarčič, visited communities affected by the severe flooding in Sindh province (in Khipro, Sanghar district) on Monday 3 October, where “rural and some of the community areas are still under water due to historic floods”, as the Commissioner highlighted on Twitter. It is one of three provinces that received initial EU assistance in August (see EUROPE 13008/23) - assistance that has since been increased (see EUROPE 13014/13). “A water purification unit donated by Denmark has been channelled through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism and the CESVI Foundation is providing urgently needed shelter and hygiene kits”, the Commissioner said. He and the Czech Presidency of the EU Council will discuss the EU’s humanitarian response to the floods with MEPs on Wednesday. (AN)
