03/10/2022 (Agence Europe) – The European Union took note, on Sunday 2 October, of High Representative Christian Schmidt’s surprise decision to amend the Constitution of the entity Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Election Law of Bosnia and Herzegovina just after the polls closed for the general elections. “It was a decision of the High Representative alone”, the EU delegation in the country said, adding that the High Representative’s executive powers “should only be used as a last resort against irreparable illegal acts”. The delegation recalled that for almost a year the EU and the US had facilitated discussions on constitutional and electoral reform, regretting that it had not been possible for the political parties to agree on reforms addressing unresolved issues, including those related to the functionality of the Federation.
