EU calls for investigation into alleged executions of Armenian prisoners

03/10/2022 (Agence Europe)The spokesman of the European External Action Service, Peter Stano, called, on Monday 3 October, for an investigation by the Azerbaijani authorities into videos posted on social networks showing “apparently” Azerbaijani soldiers executing Armenian prisoners of war. “If proven to be authentic, these videos show acts of war crimes and clear violation of international law”, he said, calling for “an immediate and comprehensive investigation by the relevant authorities”. “Perpetrators of such horrendous acts must be held accountable and such crimes have to be clearly condemned”, he warned. According to Mr Stano, it is in the interest of the Azerbaijani authorities to investigate and prove to the world that such acts are not the policy of the country. Depending on the outcome of the investigation, the EU may consider taking action, the spokesperson said.
