01/07/2022 (Agence Europe) – The vote by MEPs in the European Parliament’s Transport Committee (‘TRAN’) on the use of renewable and low-carbon fuels in maritime transport (‘FuelEU Maritime’) (see EUROPE 12964/36) will not take place until October, a source told EUROPE. The meeting of the shadow rapporteurs on 30 June resulted in agreement on eight of the ten compromise amendments. However, more time will be needed to address the issue of maximum limits for the greenhouse gas content of energy used by ships and for the supply of energy to ships at berth. “Everyone agreed on the objective of reaching an agreement in TRAN, with the full participation of the associated committees, and to come to the plenary with a united position. I am more optimistic than ever that such an agreement can be reached soon after the summer break”, commented rapporteur Jörgen Warborn (EPP, Sweden). (TM)
