29/06/2022 (Agence Europe) – The European Ombudsman, Emily O’Reilly, is analysing the European Commission’s response to its refusal to give information to the press about text messages exchanged by its President, Ursula von der Leyen, with the CEO of Pfizer about the purchase of Covid-19 vaccines. The Ombudsman does not seem to be satisfied with the reply received on Wednesday 29 June (see EUROPE 12879/16). Ms O’Reilly had requested that Ms von der Leyen’s office carry out a more thorough search for these messages and disclose their content. The Commission explains that due to their ephemeral nature, “text and instant messages in general do not contain important information relating to policies, activities and decisions of the Commission, nor are they in the possession of the institution.”.
