On Wednesday 29 June, the European Commission adopted the French programme for the implementation of the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF), which has been allocated €567.1 million in Community funds for the period 2021-2027.
Including national funding, the total envelope for French fisheries and aquaculture is €793.3 million over 7 years.
The fund will support France’s fisheries and aquaculture sectors by facilitating the ecological and digital transition, adapting the product offering to consumer expectations, supporting small-scale coastal fishing, improving resilience and stimulating innovation.
More concretely, the programme will support, among other items: - the restructuring and modernisation of the fishing fleet; - implementation of the landing obligation; - improving the selectivity of fishing gear; - improving the knowledge and management of marine protected areas.
On the basis of the actions financed, the contributions of this French programme to climate change and the environment represent 48 and 53% respectively of the total EU allocation. France plans to allocate €282 million to environmental objectives. For more information: https://aeur.eu/f/2ed (Original version in French by Lionel Changeur)
