24/06/2022 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission announced, on Friday 24 June, that it had released €2 million in emergency humanitarian aid for victims of the violent monsoon and flooding in South Asia. The bulk of the funding - €1.2 million - will go to help those most affected in the north-eastern and northern regions of Bangladesh, which are facing more severe floods than those of 1998 and 2004. The remaining €800,000 is for vulnerable people in the worst affected areas in the State of Assam, India. The aid will be channelled through ECHO’s (the European Commission’s Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection department) partner organisations on the ground. (AN)
