24/06/2022 (Agence Europe) – In a report on illegal logging adopted on 23 June, MEPs called for the extension of the powers of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office and the creation of a “Green Prosecutor”. It is, according to them, “a way to improve the implementation and enforcement of European environmental legislation and to combat serious environmental crime with a cross-border dimension”. The rest of the report calls for a framework for monitoring and collecting data on Europe’s forests to combat illegal logging (see EUROPE 12955/12, 12969/14).
