25/05/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 25 May, the European Commission announced the creation of a new working group within its Directorate-General for Energy (DG ENER). This working group will be responsible for supporting the new EU Energy Platform - designed to enable the voluntary joint procurement of gas and hydrogen - and contributing to the objective of diversifying the EU’s energy supply set out in the REPowerEU plan (see EUROPE 12956/2, 12955/4). “In our REPowerEU plan, we outlined how Europe can get rid of Russian fossil fuels. Now we are giving ourselves the tools to make it happen”, said Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson on this occasion. The working group will start its work on 1 June. These will be overseen by Matthew Baldwin, who joins DG ENER from the Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport (DG MOVE) where he was Deputy Director-General (see other news). (DG)
