Matthew Baldwin, new Deputy Director-General of Department of Energy

The European Commission decided on Wednesday 25 May to transfer Matthew Baldwin, currently Deputy Director-General in the Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport (DG MOVE), to the function of Deputy Director-General in the Directorate-General for Energy (DG ENER).

In particular, Mr Baldwin will oversee the work of the new ‘Energy Platform Task Force (EPTF)’ (the EU’s common energy procurement platform). The date of effect of this appointment will be determined later. Matthew Baldwin has dual nationality (Italy and Great Britain).

In addition, the Commission has appointed Laurence Moreau as Executive Director of the European Research Council Executive Agency (ERCEA), which is the dedicated implementation structure of the European Research Council (ERC). It manages the EU’s research and innovation programmes. Mrs Moreau, a French national, has had a 30-year career in the scientific field. She has been working at ERCEA since 2016 as Head of Department and before that as Head of Unit ‘Legal Affairs and Internal Control’. (Original version in French by Lionel Changeur)
