25/05/2022 (Agence Europe) – At the end of the ‘Ecofin’ Council on Tuesday, 24 May, [Executive] Vice-President of the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis stated with regard to negotiations with Poland on the Polish recovery plan within the framework of the NextGenerationEU recovery plan, “we are finalising this work”, mentioning—though not 100% certain—that this might be accomplished “in [the] nearest days or a week”. A few days ago, the EU institution’s spokesperson had not wanted to answer the question on whether Poland would be required to bring the functioning of its judiciary in line with European case law as a precondition for the European Commission to approve the Polish plan. A green light for the Polish plan could lift Warsaw’s veto on a unanimous agreement in the Council of the EU on the directive transposing the OECD agreement on minimum taxation of multinational companies (see EUROPE 12959/10).
