On Tuesday, 24 May, the Council of the EU unanimously adopted the regulation to suspend tariffs on imports from Ukraine for one year. This proposal was published by the European Commission at the end of April (see EUROPE 12940/3) and approved by the European Parliament last week (see EUROPE 12956/6).
The suspension of tariffs also applies to the tariff quotas applicable under the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement as well as the EU anti-dumping duties in force on certain products.
According to European Commissioner for Trade Valdis Dombrovskis, this access to the EU market “will support Ukraine[’s] economy in [the] face of Russia’s aggression.”
The regulation is expected to be published in the Official Journal of the EU soon and to enter into force the next day. See the regulation: https://aeur.eu/f/1do (Original version in French by Léa Marchal)
