24/05/2022 (Agence Europe) – In a document dated Monday 23 May, the European Commission asked Member States for their authorisation to enter into negotiations with Egypt and Israel, with a view to concluding a trilateral memorandum of understanding, on behalf of the European Union, on cooperation related to the trade, transport and export of natural gas. Part of the EU’s gas supply diversification efforts (see EUROPE 12955/4), the proposed memorandum of understanding aims to provide “a political framing for increasing the delivery of Israeli gas to the EU through Egypt’s liquefaction capacity in Idku and Damietta, and enhance cooperation on clean energy transition agendas”, says the document obtained by EUROPE.
