24/05/2022 (Agence Europe) – In a letter to President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola on Monday, 23 May, the co-presidents of the Greens/EFA Group in the European Parliament called for the access of Russian state-affiliated entities such as Gazprom, Rusatom, and Lukoil to the institution be immediately revoked. “In the wake of the war in Ukraine and ongoing efforts to tackle the influence of the Russian state on the European public sphere, it is essential that the European Parliament ensures that policymaking in this house is protected from Russian influence,” the letter notably stresses. According to the Greens/EFA, the European Parliament’s ‘Joint Transparency Register Secretariat’ should be tasked with examining which Russian state-owned or -affiliated companies are currently on the register and which public relations firms have these entities as clients so as to revoke their accreditations.
