06/05/2022 (Agence Europe) – The invasion of Ukraine that began in February 2022 has had a significant impact on the European space sector, according to a report published on Thursday 5 May by ESPI, the European Space Policy Institute. In addition to cancelling the Soyuz launches (see EUROPE 12900/13), which led to the European institutional launches being reorganised, the postponement of the ExoMars mission (see EUROPE 12913/6) and the end of the collaboration with Russia on projects to explore the Moon (see EUROPE 12933/12), the war has had an impact on European launchers. Vega and Vega-C use Ukrainian-made engines. In the medium to long term, ESPI anticipates a worsening of international relations, which could have consequences for controlling space arms or managing space traffic.
