Brussels, 06/05/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 5 May at a conference of the European Credit Research Institute (ECRI), Gerhard Huemer, who is SMEunited’s Director of Economic Affairs, called for a rapid improvement in the implementation of the instant payment system. Five years after the launch of the SEPA instant payment system for credit transfers, only two-thirds of payment service providers offer this service, according to the expert. Moreover, in the majority of countries, this system is only offered for person-to-person payments. In the opinion of SMEunited, regulators should make this payment method mandatory. In addition, the organisation believes that it should also be a cross-border system, and instant payment solutions should be offered between private and business customers. (PH)
