02/03/2022 (Agence Europe) – Seventy-two European organisations - including Amnesty International and European Digital Rights - co-signed an open letter on Wednesday 2 March insisting on “strong” provisions to protect human rights in the Digital Services Act (DSA) (see EUROPE 12900/18). Inter-institutional negotiations (‘trilogue’) are currently being conducted on the DSA. In concrete terms, stakeholders want to see a focus on banning ‘dark patterns’, which trick users into accepting data collection or staying longer on a service. In addition, the organisations also call for a “strengthening” of Article 24, in order to definitively exclude sensitive types of personal data for advertising targeting purposes.
