29/10/2021 (Agence Europe) – Contrary to what we reported in our EUROPE 12822/16 edition, the report by Sweden's Abir Al-Sahlani (Renew Europe) on new legal channels for migration to the EU, including economic migration, is an own-initiative report. It is based on Articles 79 and 225 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union and on Rule 47 of the European Parliament’s Rules of Procedure, giving the European Parliament the right to ask the Commission to submit any appropriate proposal for the adoption of a new act or the amendment of an existing act. This is done by adopting a resolution on the basis of an own-initiative report drawn up by the competent committee. (SP)
