A public consultation, launched on Tuesday 26 October by the European Commission, is open until 23 November on a draft regulation stemming from the EU’s ‘Farm to Fork’ strategy.
This strategy ‘for a fair, healthy and environmentally friendly food system’ aims, among other things, to reduce reliance on chemical pesticides by allowing the sale of organic alternatives, such as pesticides containing micro-organisms.
The European Commission’s draft regulation, which is open for comment, will amend Regulation (EU) No 546/2011 which provides specific uniform principles for the evaluation and market authorisation of plant protection products.
The aim of the project is to adapt these uniform principles to take into account the particularities of plant protection products containing micro-organisms, which differ from synthetic chemicals.
The Commission's initiative will adapt Part II of the Uniform Principles for the Evaluation and Authorisation of Pesticides.
The new Commission Regulation is scheduled to be adopted before the end of the year.
The public consultation is open until 23 November, midnight Brussels time. To participate: https://bit.ly/3mp5mpP (Original version in French by Aminata Niang)
