The EU-Serbia Stabilisation and Association Committee on Thursday called on the Serbian authorities and all political actors to fully implement the set of 16 measures to improve the electoral environment agreed following the second phase of the European Parliament-facilitated inter-party dialogue.
Presidential and legislative elections are scheduled for April 2022.
In the statement issued at the end of its meeting, the Parliamentary Committee recalls that the full and speedy implementation of all outstanding OSCE/ODIHR recommendations is also essential. “I encourage all political forces to participate in the upcoming elections and thus pave the way for a more pluralistic parliament”, said committee co-chair Tanja Fajon (S&D, Slovenia) in a statement.
The committee also called for further reforms, especially in the area of the Rule of law. “Continued efforts and tangible progress are essential, especially on judicial independence, freedom of expression, media freedom and the fight against corruption and organised crime”, said Fajon.
