12/10/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 12 October, some 30 businesses, consumer groups and NGOs issued a joint statement calling for the DSA (see EUROPE 12802/9) to hold online trading platforms accountable when they fail to combat the illegal activities and products that they host. “It’s high time platforms offering e-commerce services face effective rules. For too long, they have been able to turn a blind eye to illegal activities and enough is enough,” said Maryant Fernández Pérez, Digital Policy Officer of the European Consumer Organisation (BEUC). The issue of liability in relation to hosting platforms and services has already been raised by the Slovenian Presidency of the EU Council in a compromise text presented in September (see EUROPE 12793/1).
