12/10/2021 (Agence Europe) – Members of the European Parliament Committee on Environment (ENVI) adopted by a large majority (60 votes in favour, 15 against and 3 abstentions), on Tuesday 12 October, a draft resolution calling on all countries to increase their 2030 climate targets, in line with the Paris Agreement, in order to achieve a strong outcome at the 26th UN Conference of the Parties on Climate Change (COP26). Previously detailed in our columns (see EUROPE 12809/7), the resolution calls for, among other things, a common five-year timetable for ‘nationally determined contributions’ (NDCs) and an end to direct and indirect subsidies to fossil fuels by 2025. The text will be put to the vote of all MEPs at the next plenary session of the Parliament (18-21 October), with a view to its final adoption before COP26, which will be held from 31 October to 12 November in Glasgow.
