21/09/2021 (Agence Europe) – The European Labour Authority (ELA) organised a joint inspection between France and Bulgaria from 14 to 17 September to monitor the rights of mobile workers in the agricultural sector, it announced in a statement on Monday 20 September. In particular, the ELA provided interpretation services and sent staff (including liaison officers) to monitor the control and to support Member States with their expertise on cross-border aspects. In addition, the Authority provided financial support for the translation of the documentation needed to carry out the inspection and for the travel and accommodation costs of the national authorities “due to the cross-border nature of the actions”. The ELA was launched in 2019 (see EUROPE 12308/11). It has been strongly criticised by trade unions for its inaction (see EUROPE 12584/28). (PH)
