21/09/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 20 September, the European Commission opened a consultation on the establishment of a common calculation formula that the national authorities of EU Member States should use to calculate the risks of road transport operators established on their territory. This formula, based on the seriousness, number and frequency of incidents and infringements committed by a company, should make better targeted checks on problem firms easier. The draft act should also address the fact that Member States currently have their own methods of calculation for assessing the level of risk. Harmonisation of the rules, says the Commission, will “improve road safety, drivers’ working conditions and social protection”, while “ensuring fair competition between road transport companies”.
