EU finalises its position on discussions in new EU-UK ‘Specialised Committee on Fisheries’

On 15 September, the Slovenian Presidency of the Council of the EU presented a revised compromise proposal concerning the position to be taken in the name of the European Union, for the 2021–2026 period, in the Specialised Committee on Fisheries established by the Trade and Cooperation Agreement between the European Union and the United Kingdom (see EUROPE 12784/5).

The revised compromise proposal takes account of comments received from delegations in the context of a written consultation launched this past 28 July.

In this mandate, the European Commission is notably expected to send the EU Council—sufficiently in advance of each meeting of this Specialised Committee on Fisheries—“a written document setting out the particulars” of the European Union’s position in preparation for discussions within this body. It is envisaged that the European Parliament will be consulted in this context.
