Christian Ehler MEP (EPP, Germany) and Portuguese Research Minister Manuel Heitor launched the Lisbon Manifesto on Citizen-centred, Research-driven Creative Industries at a round table in Lisbon on Thursday 17 June.
The idea of this manifesto is to set up a network of cultural and creative industries to create a pan-European ecosystem of players in the sector. Mr Ehler stated that he would like to see the creation of a ‘European cultural heritage collaborative space’.
The aim is to cover the ‘continuum’ of research and innovation, from basic research in the humanities, informatics and natural sciences, among other disciplines, to applied research and innovation in all disciplines.
The two signatories call for collective action across Europe for a holistic approach to research and innovation focused on these industries. They invite the European Commission to launch a dedicated call under, in particular, the Horizon Europe research framework programme.
The manifesto was handed over to Mariya Gabriel, European Commissioner for Innovation and Research, at the end of the event on 17 June.
