The European Commission presented an online guide to the public funding instruments available at European and national level to support renewable and low-carbon hydrogen projects on Thursday 17 June at the third European Hydrogen Forum.
“I think Europe will lead the way for the world in hydrogen. But I think we also need four building blocks to make it succeed: innovation, massive investment in the hydrogen supply chain, an enabling policy framework and also international collaboration”, said Commission Executive Vice-President for the European Green Deal, Frans Timmermans.
And the European Commissioner for Internal Market, Thierry Breton, added: “It is not just about the amount of funds available. It is also about channelling these resources effectively. That is why my services have developed a new ‘Hydrogen Public Funding Compass’”.
This guide is intended to help stakeholders identify relevant programmes and funds and find out which projects they can finance, what type of funding is available and what conditions apply.
With more than 1,400 members so far, the European Clean Hydrogen Alliance (see EUROPE 12523/1, 12524/5) has compiled nearly 1,000 renewable and low-carbon projects that Alliance members plan to implement by 2030 to produce nearly 9 million tonnes of mostly renewable hydrogen per year, says a Commission statement.
