European Commission sets out its vision for system that will replace European social security number

The European Commission confirmed the abandonment of a draft initiative to introduce a European national insurance number to MEPs in the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs (EMPL) on Wednesday 16 June, before giving details of the modalities and timetable for the ‘European Social Security Pass’.

MEPs are preparing a resolution, to be adopted in July, to encourage the European Commission to present an initiative for a European social security number as soon as possible.
