16/06/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 16 June, the European Commission launched the process to adopt a decision on the adequacy of existing standards for transfers of personal data from the EU to South Korea (see EUROPE 12689/17). “This agreement with the Republic of Korea will improve the protection of personal data for our citizens and encourage dynamic trade relations”, said Vice-President for Values and Transparency Věra Jourová. The decision, which will apply to transfers of personal data to Korean commercial operators and public authorities, will be vetted by the European Data Protection Board and will have to be approved by a committee of EU Member State representatives.
