31/05/2021 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission adopted, on Monday 31 May, a decision approving the use of the Covid-19 vaccine developed by the Pfizer/BioNTech group in young people aged 12 to 15. “Member States can now choose to expand their vaccination rollout to young people”, commented EU Health Commissioner Stella Kyriakides on her Twitter account. The European Medicines Agency had pave the way for this possibility on Friday, assuring that the use of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine in adolescents did, in fact, present a positive benefit/risk ratio (see EUROPE 12729/19) and that the vaccine could, therefore, also be administered to 12-15 year olds in the form of two injections, three weeks apart.
